Winyah
“Because Winyah”
I met Winyah’s lead singer, Thomas, back in 2024 when he opened for his buddy, Evan Honer at Fox Theater. He played an awesome solo folk set, super distinct, raspy voice. I had a chance to chat with him after the set -- he said that while he was digging the solo stuff, his main focus was a band project he had started up, called Winyah.
And that was the last time Winyah was a “project” -- shortly after, they dropped their debut album, “Lot To Learn” and that was all she wrote. Since then, they’ve amassed over 770k monthly Spotify listeners, have toured the US coast to coast and opened for Mt. Joy at Credit One Stadium in Charleston, SC.
Plain and simple, these guys rip. A part of the emphatic new wave of fast past, shred-forward alternative indie rock, their one of those groups whose live shows enhance their already insatiably good tracks. They’re a must see for me every time they come to town… and I look forward to catching them for a third time soon.
